The hirado-daiko has a much shorter body than they typical nagado style of drum, but is crafted from the same types of wood. It is sometimes called a "gong taiko" both because of its shape, and also because the sound it makes when played "spreads" in a way similar to a gong. The drum can be suspended by its steel rings with a standard tsuri stand, and the Asano Multipurpose Hira-taiko stand can be used as a fuse stand (placing the taiko low to the ground) or a yonhonashi (4-leg) stand.
